How does Solar Power work?
Solar power uses semiconductor materials to turn sunlight into electricity. When the sun is shining, electricity is being produced and used to feed loads and charge a battery bank. The battery bank is utilized at night and on cloudy days.
Why is solar power common in off grid systems?
Solar Power is very reliable. In fact, the solar modules we use have a warranty that guarantees the modules will perform at 80% of their nameplate rating in 25 years.
Bring on the sun shine. When the sun rises, solar modules begin providing DC electricity which is either fed directly in the battery bank or fed to the AC loads (depending on the type of system).
DC Coupled Systems
In DC coupled off grid systems, the electricity generated from solar modules is connected directly to the batteries or an Inverter that manages the loads and battery charge.
AC Coupled Systems
In AC Coupled off grid systems, the electricity generated from solar modules is connected to an Inveter that immediately converts the electricity to AC voltage. The AC voltage is then fed to the loads or used to maintain the charge of the battery bank.
